Understanding Anxiety

Anxiety isn’t something you can just think your way out of, even though it can feel like you should be able to. It tends to show up in patterns like overthinking, constant scanning, and trying to stay one step ahead of what might go wrong.

In our sessions, I don’t want to just manage anxiety with you in the moment. We’re going to focus on helping you respond differently to it, so it stops running the show.

Anxiety doesn’t always look obvious. It’s not always panic. A lot of the time it’s more like a constant background noise that never fully shuts off.

Here’s what that can look like:

  • Your mind is always running. You replay conversations and think through what might go wrong

  • You feel pressure to get things right or avoid mistakes

  • You carry tension in your body, even if you don’t always notice it

  • You overanalyze situations and second guess yourself afterward

  • You’ve tried coping strategies and they help, but only for a little while

  • You’re used to pushing through, even when you’re exhausted

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. There’s a reason it keeps happening and we can help get you out of these patterns.

What Anxiety Can Look Like

Anxiety is often maintained by patterns like overthinking, avoidance, and trying to control uncertainty. These patterns make sense. They are your mind’s way of trying to protect you, but they can also keep things stuck.

You might feel some relief in the moment, but the anxiety comes back because the pattern hasn’t changed.

This isn’t about getting rid of anxiety completely. It’s about changing your relationship to it so it has less control over your life.

Why Anxiety Persists

How I Work With Anxiety

I use approaches like CBT, ACT, DBT, and ERP depending on what you’re dealing with.

We focus on helping you:

  • understand your patterns

  • build tolerance for discomfort

  • respond differently to anxious thoughts

We go at a pace that feels manageable, but still focused on real change. The goal is not just to feel better in session. It’s to feel more in control in your day to day life.

When Anxiety Starts to Loosen

As things start to shift, you may notice:

More space between thought and response
You can notice anxiety without immediately reacting to it.

Less constant mental noise
Your mind feels quieter and less overwhelming.

More confidence in yourself
You trust your ability to handle situations without over-preparing.

More flexibility
You have more choice in how you respond instead of falling into the same patterns.
